Coast Guard Auxiliary Supports National Night Out in Calvert County

Coast Guard Auxiliarists of the Drum Point Flotilla (15-6) participated in National Night Out activities in both White Sands and at the Calvert Beach Community Center in Drum Point.  Harry Smith, Bill Noyes, Peggy Whilden, Dave and Eleanor Keyser, and Jack Margolis participated in the National Night Out activities representing the Flotilla. Bill Noyes, Peggy Whilden, and Harry Scott manned a table in White Sands (Pictured below), while Dave and Eleanor Keyser and Jack Margolis (later joined by Bill Noyes) were at the Calvert Beach Community Center.

Harry Scott, Peggy Whilden, and Bill Noyes Man the table at White Sands.

They handed out pamphlets, coloring books, stickers and pencils, and spoke with those visiting these two National Night Out locations in Calvert County in an attempt to educate the boating public on safe boating (which among other things entails having everyone on board wear their Personal Flotation Devices (i.e. Life Jackets)), protecting our local waterways from trash and pollution, and being vigilant in the aftermath of 9/11.

These dedicated volunteers weathered the scorching heat in White Sands and at the Calvert Beach Community Center for several hours Tuesday night, as they have done for several years to support of National Night Out.  The members of the Flotilla participate in numerous other community activities in hopes of getting the message out to the boating and general public in an attempt to help make boating a safe and enjoyable activity.
